Microgrid technology has been introduced to distributed renewable energy system to make power system fully self-sufficient recently. The using energy from renewable and alternative sources can reduce the cost of energy demand at locations with high demand, and increase the energy security at sites subject to power interruptions. Currently most of the critical electricity users rely on electric energy sources provided by local grids. There is an opportunity of using renewable and alternative energy sources instead of backup diesel generator in the emergency situations. However, for achieving success of using renewable and alternative energy sources, it requires a smart Microgrid to make critical electricity users fully self-sufficient. By introducing Microgrid using d-statcom with energy storage system and smart transformer in such critical electricity users, the overall electricity load can be controlled according to the demand, thus enabling the use of the available renewable and alternative energy sources, reduction of conventional energy sources and achieving self-sufficiency and energy security.

    This talk will introduce a benchmark model to the IEEE 1547 Standard Series for Microgrids and Distributed Resources using smart transformer and energy storage. The main advantage of using such Microgrid is that it can be implemented as a controllable entity within the electrical network. As the active power exchange between a Microgrid and the utility grid depends on the state of both networks and other information communicated to the solid state Smart Transformer, the power transfer through the point of common coupling can be controlled and Microgrid control system operated through communication system. The solid state smart transformer with STATCOM inverter and integration of energy storage can provide a power-electronics-based means of embedded control of transmission-line voltage and power flows, and can extend traditional inverter capabilities to four-quadrant power flow control and transient stability improvement.


主讲人简介:

Prof. Junwei Lu是世界上仅有几位横跨高频和低频计算电磁场领域的专家,多次代表澳大利亚出席及担任世界级计算电磁场大会的代表和理事,如参加IEEE CEFC及COMPUMAG会议等。由于在计算电磁场领域的特殊贡献,2004-2007年,2008-2011年以及2014-2017年3次当选为国际COMPUMAG学会的亚太地区理事。目前就职于澳大利亚Griffith University工程学院,电气及电子工程学科终身首席教授,博导,高性能计算及可视化研究室主任,电力电子及磁技术研究室主任,新能源及智能电网研究室主任。专业资格包括IEEE高级会员,电力电子分会、微波理论与技术分会终身会员,天线与波动分会、电磁兼容分会、电力与能源分会会员,以及国际计算电磁学协会(ICS)理事等,已发表250余篇学术论文,为IEEE、IET和其他专业组织评阅了众多学术论文。
